After 30 Years in One Place, Proposte Fair Moves Lake Como Location in 2025

MILAN—After 30 years at the same Como location, ‘Proposte’ contract with the Villa Erba fairgrounds will be cancelled for 2025 according to industry sources.
It is expected that a new location will be chosen for Proposte in 2025. Currently, there are 79 exhibitors at Proposte, 48 foreign and 31 Italian.
Proposte Fair organizers blame the competitive showrooms and shops outside the Fair for its termination at the Villa Erba location. Powerless to prevent outside Villa Erba competition, Proposte organizers have decided to take their Fair elsewhere but exactly “where” has not yet been decided.
“I am grateful to the mayor Matteo Monti who took action to keep the appointment in Cernobbio,” says Alessandro Tessuto, President of Proposte. “Unfortunately to date there are no regulatory prerequisites to hinder those who operate in a clearly unfair manner,” Tessuto said in ‘Economy,’ a local Italian newspaper.
Tessuto is referring to the many outside showrooms beyond the Villa Erba which will open to the trade even before Proposte opens May 2, 2024. The organizers of Proposte felt powerless to correct the situation which undermined the important of the Proposte exhibition.
In past years, local police tried to control the opening of showrooms in the Cernobbio area which fed off the draw of Proposte, but to no avail. Organizers say there is no legal way to prevent competitors to Proposte exhibitors from opening their local showrooms even before the Fair opens.
When the new location will be identified, F&FI will report back to the industry.
