Mukesh Gupta Exits Silk Crafts Inc. After 35 Years of Industry Influence

Syosset, NY (USA)—Mukesh Gupta, President and founding member of Silk Crafts Inc., stepped down at the end of 2025, concluding more than 35 years of leadership at this fabric wholesaler.
Industry watchers say: “There is no doubt his departure marks the closing of a significant chapter for Silk Crafts and the home furnishings textile sector.”
Serving as President since February,1991, Gupta played a pivotal role in building Silk Crafts into a trusted supplier of printed fabrics, wovens, embroideries, woven velvets and specialty textiles to the U.S. furniture, apparel and crafts markets. The company maintains a showroom in the Textile Tower in High Point, NC and is a regular exhibitor at Interwoven.
Gupta reported to CEO Madhuri Shah who assumed leadership in 2009. Shah was not available for further discussion about Gupta’s departure or the future of the business which has had a 40 year history. In a memo announcing his departure, Gupta said: “This decision was made after long and careful deliberation.”
Gupta was widely respected by his peers at leading textile mills worldwide where he sourced product and cultivated long-standing partnerships. Those who worked with Gupta, said “he had a keen eye for design, refined sense of color and texture and creative instincts.”
His closest associates said “Gupta’s product direction was valued by customers, mills and industry peers alike, helping Silk Crafts remain relevant across changing market cycles.”
Gupta’s plans are not known at this time but he said the following in a recent memo about his departure: “It is with mixed emotions that I announce my departure. This decision was made after long and careful deliberation.”
Now 62, Gupta told F&FI he “plans to take time off before determining my next steps.”
