Sunbury to Lay off 20 Percent of its Workers

February 26, 2009

SUNBURY, Pennsylvania - According to an article published today in the Daily Item newspaper here, Sunbury Textile Mills has plans to lay off 20 percent of its workforce by March 2 due a significant drop in orders and the general downturn of the worldwide economy.

President and CEO Henry Truslow, Jr. told the paper that the decline in its fabric order rate has forced the company to make this difficult decision. He also said that it should ''come as no surprise'' considering the national economic crisis.

Sunbury is a major producer of decorative jacquards and performance fabrics with Crypton and Sunbrella collections in its books. Although most of its buying business is domestic, Truslow told the Daily Item that few local buyers remain and Pennsylvania House was one of them but it closed in 2004. Fabrics & Furnishings International did not receive information on whether any of the company's 42 layoffs will affect the 34 employees in the New York City office.
