GREENSBORO, NC—Saverio ‘Savy’ Russo, one of the great pioneers of U.S. textile export passed away January 15.

He was well known in export circles as far away as Christchurch, New Zealand.

Savy was born May 24, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, and was the youngest of seven children. His later years were spent with his family in Raleigh, NC.

He was an important member of Quaker Fabrics export operations in the 1980s when he traveled the globe for what was then the largest mill in the world. Quaker has since met its demise about 15 years ago.

In more recent years, Russo headed his own textile trading company as director of sales in America · ‎S.E. Russo, LLC.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Russo, and six children. He also had many grandchildren and a newly born great-grandson.
