Rodney McMahon Appointed Chairman For BCFA

June 5, 2008

BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, United Kingdom - The British Contract Furnishing & Design Association (BCFA) has appointed Rodney McMahon as chairman. As managing director of Morgan Contract Furniture, he takes up the post after an active seven years on the BCFA Board.

Rodney McMahon has a degree in Economics from Exeter University and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He joined Morgan Contract Furniture in 1992 and continues to take an active interest in the furniture industry as a whole, particularly through training initiatives and involvement with trade associations. Alongside his new role with the BCFA, Rodney is an assistant to, and honorary treasurer of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers. He is also a fellow of the RSA and chairman of the Edward Barnsley Educational Trust, which is devoted to the training of cabinetmakers through high quality bespoke commissions.

On accepting the chair, Rodney McMahon acknowledged the commitment and dynamic approach of the outgoing BCFA chairman Carolyn Mitchell. ''We have all appreciated Carolyn's commitment and determination and I intend to continue many of the initiatives started under her direction,'' said McMahon. ''I am particularly keen that we continue to broaden the range of our membership, especially amongst the design community, so that we fully represent the interests of all the constituents within our industry, and I hope that this will allow us to engage with design students and colleges so as to make their training more relevant to industry requirements.'' Other priorities include the diversification of the BCFA Board and the forging of alliances with other trade bodies to ensure a unified force at the heart of the UK contract furnishings sector.

The BCFA is the association representing the interests of UK companies who manufacture or supply goods and services to the non-domestic interiors markets, including the hospitality and leisure, healthcare, education and office sectors. Product areas covered by the membership embrace furniture, fabrics and soft furnishings, wallcoverings, flooring and lighting, workspace furnishings, art and décor accessories, in addition to specialist skills and services.
