Mr."TreviraCS" Retires

April 4, 2002

Frankfurt, Germany - The person who, perhaps more than anyone else, helped shape the global market for flame-retardant home textiles, retired from German fiber producer Trevira at the end of 2001.

Dr. Heiner Zimmermann was born in Klagenfurt, Austria, and studied chemistry at the University of Graz, where he became an assistant from 1967-69.

Having gained his doctorate, Zimmermann joined the plastics research department at Werk Gendorf, Hoechst, in 1970. Here his responsibilities included bringing flame-retardant fibers to a state of technical market readiness.

In 1980, his commitment and perseverance saw the launch of Trevira CS®. Over the past two decades this business has been built up globally, with collections incorporating the fiber now being used by many contract furnishing specifiers. At Trevira, Zimmermann''s role as marketing manager for Trevira CS® is to be assimilated into a newly formed marketing team for home textiles headed by Anke Vollenbröker. F&FI
