Lewitas Leaves Designtex Group, Kelly Thomas Named Dir. of Marketing

January 19, 2007

NEW YORK, New York — Leslie Lewitas, executive vice president for product development and marketing at Designtex Group left the company on or about December 15.

Kelly Thomas has since been named director of marketing after three years with the company. Prior to her career at Designtex, Thomas worked with Steelcase, its parent company.

Lewitas rose through the ranks from a position as Midwest sales representative, and was eventually promoted in September, 2003 to her most recent position, prior to her departure.

At Lewitas' inauguration in 1989, Tom Hamilton, president of Designtex credited her with the headway Designtex made in marketing and design. It is not known at this time if she will be replaced in that position by Designtex. She reported directly to Hamilton, but he could not be reached for comment. Designtex, as a policy, does not announce departures. It is understood that she has relocated to the Boston area and she is no longer involved in the industry.

In her position, Lewitas was the link between the creative resources of both design and marketing. Designtex design consultants and departments of marketing; Unique Solutions, DG Design Studio; and Showrooms reported directly to her.

Lewitas joined Designtex in 1995 as a sales representative in the Midwest division. She was said to have secured such accounts as Allstate Insurance, State Farm Insurance, Comdisco, Walgreens and Choice Hotels. She was chosen twice as salesperson of the year, and was nominated four times to the President's Advisory Council.

Lewitas also held a sales position at Momentum Textiles and earned a degree in textile design at Michigan State University.

Designtex is the second largest contract jobber in the world with sales in the $70 million range including fabrics and wall coverings as reported in the autumn, 2006 issue of Fabrics & Furnishings International.
