Guleser Goes Green For Decosit

June 19, 2008

ISTANBUL, Turkey – Guleser Tekstil has invested an estimated half million dollars over the last four to five months in organic product development, said company general manager, Engin Ocak. The strategy behind this, he indicated, is to appeal to American jobbers, who are now hungry for organic, "pure" materials.

"The trend now is a pure, clean," said Ocak. "Especially the American market has a demand for organic products. Last year when I made a trip out to the U.S., my customers expressed a strong interest in 'green.'"

"We are already doing well in Europe," he continued. "There are big producers that have left the American market like Quaker and Mastercraft and big buyers are looking for new producers. They have a problem buying from Asia, and a lot of them want to increase business with us."

Ocak indicated that Guleser has begun production with organic cotton in addition to the polyester and viscous yarns the company has been using, and that the company will try to have organic cotton products ready by Decosit. "Eventually, there will be at least 25 new lines in organic cotton," he said.

"We work with the best companies in every country," said Ocak. "Now the best companies in the U.S. demand green. We are targeting those high-end jobbers in the U.S. market."

Guleser Teskstil was founded as an upholstery manufacturer in 1985. Since 1992, it has manufactured jacquard upholstery. It has a capacity of two million meters per year and now exports 90 percent of its products. Ocak also indicated that the company makes a net sales amount of around $40 million per year.
