Andrew Purcell Takes the Reins of Purcell Letchinger

March 27, 2000

The Purcell Letchinger group announced the completion of a buyout in which Andrew Purcell became the company's sole owner. He acquired the company from Harold Purcell (his father) and Mel Letchinger, co-partners who formed the company 20 years ago in order to represent upper end European textile mills with exclusive sales agents in U.S.

"We consummated a mutually beneficial buyout where everyone was happy," said Purcell. "The niche that they've created and that I'm going to carry on is representing high end mills as an exclusive agency."

Purcell said that his father has agreed to act as chief consulting executive during the transition. Letchinger has not yet decided whether to accept the consulting position offered him and will reportedly pursue other interests in the interim.

The company distributes products from Algemene (Belgium), Bruvatex (Belgium), Decoviz (Portugal) Zensilk (India). The company also distributes a drapery fabric line called Tessilarredo.

The group has showrooms throughout the country and a warehouse in Hickory, N.C. Purcell said he plans to restructure the company. "By August 15, I plan to re-base the Chicago-based headquarters to Hickory, N.C., where I'll combine headquarters, customer service, a warehouse and a showroom." The new 11,000 square foot facility is nearly finished according to Purcell.

Purcell Letchinger's sales team consists of six agents who, in their entirety, cover the United States and Canada. Purcell said the company is looking for a sales agent to cover the Southeast United States, the territory that was his before the buyout.
