NEW YORK—Scalamandré owner Lou Renzo and his sons just rebooted their design department with the return of Susan North to the Hinson line.
North’s position is a new one at Scalamandré. “North worked for Scalamandré six years ago and now she returns to refurbish our Hinson brand,” Renzo says. He bought the Hinson brand at a bankruptcy sale three years ago.
Meanwhile, Allison Block, former design director of Travers is joining Scalamandré reporting to Lorraine Lang, head designer of Scalamandré and Old-World Weavers. Block was most recently print designer for P/Kaufmann.
Several years ago, F&FI ran a story saying the Renzo Family was putting new wheels on its bus and now it’s turbocharged!
“We are not only enlarging our design department, but we are also expanding the production of our printed wallpaper lines in Calhoun, Georgia,” Renzo says. “We want to bring more production to America.”
Renzo has owned Scalamandré for 15 years and in that time, his employee count has soared from 120 to 180 employees with a steady expansion of his business which includes more finished product than ever.
