NEW YORK–Nassimi has developed a new biodegradable vinyl upholstery brand called “Hyphyn” which breaks down into the soil after a useful life of 10-15 years according to Debbye Lustig, VP, Design, Nassimi.

“The Hyphyn backing contains embedded enzymes which turns the product to gas which can be used to create energy from the landfill while regular vinyl could create toxins and is hard to break down,” the 14 year veteran states.” Hyphyn is sourced from Taiwan by Nassimi, a vinyl converter. Hyphyn testing shows it will break down in a landfill 90 percent within 24 months.

Aside from importing, Nassimi is also shipping vinyl upholstery to other countries direct from Taiwan which saves the customer “10-20 percent,” she says.
“Nassimi is doing well but we hear mixed reports from our furniture manufacturing customers about business conditions,” she adds.
