ISTANBUL—"Hometex at Istanbul Expo Center (May 21-25) was not as busy as last year,” according to Maria Kremer, consultant to the textile Industry with 35+ years of experience behind her as a sales agent.

Kremer is consulting to some Turkish mills, supported by her extensive network of global contacts.

Most of the Hometex attendance this year were domestic and Middle Eastern buyers.

“The absence of the Americans and European attendees was felt. However, if the dates of Proposte and Heimtex were closer, the attendance would be greater,” she says. (Proposte was held May 6-8 just before Hometex and January is the month Heimtextil is held.)

Unless things change, Proposte 2025 dates are also May 6-8.

One mill executive (who prefers to remain anonymous,) jumped from Proposte to High Point, NC (May 7-9) for Interwoven and then on to Hometex this year. Aside from being exhausted from his travels, he says the fairs are too close together.

“This Fair (Hometex) is different from Proposte, and Heimextil” Kremer continues, “because it caters mostly to the Arab and Baltic countries plus Russia which is a very important player to the Turkish weavers of curtain and furniture fabrics. The entire Hometex structure is spacious, and the stands are well organized. There are 11 Halls, each grouped by product type. Parking is plentiful and the metro is very close.”

This fair also shows finished product such as bedding, towels, juvenile textiles and rugs.
