FRANKFURT—Messe Frankfurt has officially cancelled Heimtextil 2022 due to the increase in Coronavirus cases in Germany
“In the last fortnight, the pandemic situation has once again come to a head, culminating in yesterday's decisions by the Conference of Minister Presidents,” according to the official statement.
“Due to this extreme escalation and the resulting deterioration of the general conditions for you and for us within a very short time, we cannot keep the early date of Heimtextil, right at the beginning of the year, in the second week of January, and with a heavy heart, we have to cancel Heimtextil. We will, of course, refund any stand rental already paid.”
“The cancellation is all the more difficult for us in view of the promising starting conditions for the re-launch of Heimtextil. As recently as mid-November, a cancellation was hardly conceivable. Around 1,500 exhibitors from 50 countries had confirmed their participation. There was and is no doubt about our proven safety and hygiene concept.”

‘However, the Corona outbreaks in Germany have taken on an overwhelming dynamic. The exponential increase in the number of infections in a very short period of time and the accompanying multitude of developments and decisions that are clearly beyond our realm of influence have led to a significant deterioration in the general conditions and necessary requirements for holding Heimtextil as a major trade fair of international relevance at this early stage.“ These developments include, in particular, the classification of Germany as a high-risk area, the associated travel warnings and international and intercontinental travel restrictions in India, Japan, the United States and Great Britain, as well as the quarantine obligation and „2G“ (only with vaccinated or recovered status) requirements without recognition of the WHO vaccine list in Germany.”
“Equally important are the steadily rising numbers of infections and the accompanying urgent appeal, including by the Robert Koch Institute, to reduce contacts to a minimum and to cancel all major events.”

“A large number of the exhibiting and visiting companies at Heimtextil are now reacting to this with travel and trade fair attendance bans out of an obligation of concern towards their employees to protect them from health risks. The global willingness to travel is continuing to fall rapidly.”

“However, freedom to travel plays a central role for Heimtextil in particular. Internationality is a decisive success factor for you and for Heimtextil as your leading global industry platform. As Messe Frankfurt, we cannot meet this demand at the present time.”

The statement went on to say: “Despite everything, we are united by the desire to look beyond January and organize a Heimtextil later in 2022. Together with you, we will be examining in the coming weeks whether we can hold an adequate event format in summer 2022 parallel with Techtextil and Texprocess, the respective leading international trade fairs for technical textiles and nonwovens and for the processing of textile and flexible materials.”

“Amidst the difficulties lies the opportunity: in our view, this one-time constellation holds valuable synergy effects along large parts of the textile value chain and bundles textile power on a central platform, creating space for innovative approaches and new business opportunities. We hope that you will also see this new constellation as an opportunity for innovation and a new start in 2022. We look forward to exchanging ideas with you and will be in touch shortly.”

“Thank you for standing with us during this challenging time and for your patience. We believe in the live trade show experience in the summer of 2022 and hope that you will be brave with us so that we will meet again in person next year.”

For your loyalty and trust we thank you very much.”
