Flemish Masters Build Nests at Decosit

August 2, 2000

Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. (USA) - In its seventh year, the ''Flemish Masters,'' a group of 15 Flemish manufacturers of upholstery fabrics, have decided on a different path to follow. Wanting to change the direction and take on new challenges in the creation of textiles that meet the needs of the future, they created 15 different ''nests'' conceived of as a living boxes, with two viewing sides.

Each ''Flemish Master'' has chosen nests with identical exteriors but unique interiors. Each nest purports to act as a world in unto itself. The ''Masters'' suppose that man of the future will withdraw into his nest, as the framework of life becomes a cocoon in which man can be self-sufficient. In this nest, said project co-ordinator Hilde D'haeseleer, man feels safe, secure and free. Man will be able to indulge himself unhindered by external distractions, according to D'haeseleer.

The ''Masters'' took aspects of nature and architecture for inspiration inspiration used by the ''Flemish Masters'' for the development of the materials used.

These themes will be illustrated in the Transfusion Trends 2002 of Decosit. You may find one of seven trends that are combinations such as flower power (plant + romantic), natural fake(vegetal + skin), living structure and fantastic realistic, the trends that combine with architecture. Each ''Master'' will color his nest from a palette composed of the transfusion colors. The ''Flemish Masters'' have chosen to work on a contraction of the Decosit trends to illustrate their vision for the future. The 15 manufacturers of the nests are: Algemene AFW NV, Bekaert-Depla NV, Bruvatex-Sagaert & Speyer NV, Callens Textielfabriek NV, Christian Devos NV, Comag Furnishing Industries NV, Deltracon BVBA, Depraetere Industries NV, Desalux NV, Deslee Textiles, Goeters ''ars & Labor'' NV, ITM International, Romain Maes BVBA, Muvantex NV, J. & S.
