Eastern Sees Lost USA Sales; Europe Should Take Up Slack

BENGALURU, India—“There will be no orders from the USA for four to five months until the tariffs are resolved,” according to Dilip Shah, Vice President, Sales, Eastern Silk Mills.
“We’ll have to shift our focus away from the USA to France and the UK markets to make up the loss in the American market. Europe likes bright colors in jacquards; the Middle East likes the sparkle of Lurex while the USA likes linen looks in polyester,” he says.
Eastern caters to the Middle East, and European fabric markets with a line of $5-$6 per yard polyester plain goods; nylon, polyester and viscose blended jacquards in the $6-$12 per yard range with Epingle and embroidery in the $35-$40 range.
Eastern will show 20 new samples at Heimtextil 2026, Shah says.
Shah reports to Ajay Bikram Singh, owner of Baumann Dekor in Gmund, Austria. Singh was the successful bidder this past February for purchasing Kolkata, India based Eastern Silk Industries Ltd. (ESIL) at a bankruptcy sale.
It should be stated clearly that while Singh is the common denominator between several businesses, each business is a separate and distinct corporation.
