Coronavirus Hits 150 Italians in Lombardy, But Impact on Proposte 2020 Not Yet Known

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. —More than 150 cases of coronavirus or covid19 has been discovered in the Lombardy region of Italy, especially in and around Milan, including one case in Como, with a little more than two months to go before the opening of Proposte 2020.

Italy has reported a sixth death from this illness and Italy is now the location of the third largest outbreak of the disease after China and South Korea.  Just days ago, there were only five cases of coronavirus reported in Italy, so this represents a major spike. There is a cluster of cases in Codogno, southeast of Milan.

Ten towns in this area have been placed on lockdown with schools and supermarkets closed down by the Italian government, according to the New York Times.

Sporting events, the carnival celebrations in Venice, and Milan’s annual Fashion Week have been canceled.

What happens next is unknown but Italian health officials are watching carefully.

Proposte organizers could not be reached for comment.
