Ghent, BE—Calcutta Home Fashions Inc. has been launched in the USA to sell Belgian made upholstery by the piece and by the cut in middle to upper price points.
Calcutta will also warehouse and sell its line of wallcoverings, rugs, curtain fabrics and roller blinds according to Christoph Vermeersch, CEO of the Calcutta Group in Ghent, Belgium.
Vermeersch has gone on record in saying he hopes to produce $50 million in group turnover within the next five years. He expects to build sales in the U.S. market along with European sales.
To achieve these goals, he made three acquisitions in less than a year and consolidated all production in Ghent with 100 looms and dyeing in Kortrijk, he says.
Calcutta Home will operate out of a leased warehouse with virtually unlimited storage
in Rock Hill, SC as of January 1, 2024.
Vermeersch is looking for sales agents to call on the upholstered furniture manufacturers in the USA while two of his staff will make monthly trips to the USA to call on jobbers and wholesalers. He expects to hire an operations manager to handle the other lines of Calcutta Home products.
Calcutta Home bought AG TEX, an upholstery and drapery mill in Waregem on February 8, 2023.
Vermeersch together with Saffelberg Investments purchased a majority interest in Annabel Group and Interspinning in Ghent August 4, 2022.
Vermeersch bought the shares of Calcutta in July from a British-Emirate company.
