A. Arora to Purchase Dicitex Home Fabrics Division

December 31, 1999

Bombay, India — Ajay Arora informed F&FI at presstime that he expects to purchase the home furnishings division of the Dicitex Group Bombay, a producer of synthetic textiles. "In all probability, I will acquire the home furnishings division and will continue to operate it in the style of Dicitex Decor. After all, I was the one who established the division. We have built a new mill under the name of Dicitex Pvt. Ltd. It has 12 Somet looms, which are now operating to capacity in Tharapur." Ajay and his cousin Hitesh are in the process of evaluating the assets as investments on capital equipment and the perceived and agreed value of Dicitex itself have to be worked out in detail. Hitesh is expected to continue his involvement with the Dicitex Group Bombay but not with Ajay's company. Dicitex Industries Ltd., the family-run vertical parent, has manufactured polyester filament yarn and woven jacquard dress material for more than 30 years, but owes much of its current success to the six-year-old home furnishings division that focuses on exports. "The first order from Australia during 1995 changed the direction of the company," said Rajaneesh Arora. "The group has succeeded in the market place because of the quality standards as well as the dynamic approach of the team backed by designing capabilities." With its foray into decorative home fabrics exports, Dicitex added new looms and today has capacity to weave over a million meters per month in its facilities located at Bombay, Tharapur and Surat. It has found its home furnishing fabrics in demand. This year, the company participated in Decosit for the first time. Today, decorative fabrics exports alone account for $15 million of the group's annual turnover of nearly $35 million, a increase from the $9 million reported in 1997.
