Valdese Weavers Purchases New Plant

March 20, 2007

VALDESE, North Carolina – Valdese Weavers, a 72-year-old company that designs, markets and manufactures textile products for residential and contract markets, has announced the acquisition of a 198,000-square-foot facility.

As part of a major expansion of its domestic manufacturing operations, the factory, which was formerly owned by Carolina Mills, will become the third Valdese location for the textile company. Valdese Weavers' main headquarters, design center and primary weaving operation are located in a 275,000-square-foot plant. The new plant (Plant 3) will be used as the hub for all finishing operations and the Valdese International Products (VIP) brand.

The move into the new space will take place from May to June this year, and Valdese Weavers expects it to be fully operational by January of 2008.

As a result of the new plant, the governor of North Carolina, Mike Easley, said that 61 jobs will be created and over the next three years, $19.3 million will be invested. Though pay will vary by job function, the average weekly pay for employees at the new facility will be $532 a week plus benefits, $31 more than the county wage standard. A $130,000 One North Carolina Fund grant helped to make the expansion possible, as well as partners, the N.C. Department of Commerce, Town of Valdese and others.
