Standard's Kim Heiman Personally Buys SK Textile

March 20, 2008

CINCINNATI, Ohio—Sipco Publications has learned that SK Textile, the largest COM fabric bedding and accessories workroom in the United States was sold to Kim Heiman, a principal of Standard Textiles for an undisclosed price on February 29.

SK Textile was founded in 1986 and is based in Vernon, CA.

This purchase represents a personal investment by Heiman and will be owned by her alone. Although she is the senior vice president of decorative products at Standard and her husband Gary Heiman is president and chief executive officer of Standard, it was learned that Standard was not involved in the purchase. However, that doesn't rule out using the great resources of Standard as a textiles source and manufacturer and distributor of textiles in 40 countries to add value to the SK purchase in some way, industry observers said.

Kim Heiman's role at Standard is in the company's Design and Fabrics division which creates and develops specialty decorative products for commercial applications including top of bed, drapery and privacy/cubicle curtains. In addition, she manages Standard's marketing efforts as well as international sales in Canada, Mexico and South America. She has been with Standard for 23 years.

As part of the deal, Kim Heiman has become the new president of SK. Deborah Centurian, previously president and a principal of SK will serve as vice president of sales and marketing. Company founder Stanley Kassap will be executive vice president, handling inside manufacturing operations just as he did before. Both will report to Kim Heiman. "The parties involved will continue doing business independently as SK Textile just as we have always done," a source said.

Neither Kim Heiman nor SK executives were available for comment but it is understood that an official announcement about the purchase will be forthcoming. Rumors of the purchase have been circulating in hospitality circles for several weeks. The details of this story were confirmed by a solid source close to the negotiations.

As per an official press release that was sent by SK Textiles, the acquisition provides opportunities for SK Textile to offer customized project solutions to a broader customer base and compete for a larger share of the hospitality marketplace.

Also, Mr. Kassap will continue to manage daily operations of SK Textile, and vice president Debra Centurion will lead sales function to maintain ethics standards.
