Hofmann Buys Kinnasand Collection, Locals Buy Mill

June 29, 2004

Como, Italy—Kinnasand, the Kinna, Sweden based textile mill has sold its intellectual assets to Werner Hofmann and local management will continue to operate the mill independently of the Kinnasand brand.

Kinnasand will continue to operate as a converter of its own designs, said Hofmann, a longtime associate of the original company. He was managing director of Kinnasand's German division and worked with the chairman in Sweden, Hofmann said during Proposte in May. The deal was struck in March, 2004, and Werner confirmed when Kinnasand was purchased from Proventus Investment Banking, a Stockholm based company. Proventus had owned Kinnasand for 10 years but decided to sell it when it no longer fit their investment criteria, Hofmann said.

"We always had a factory in Sweden but developed the Kinnasand collection as an editeur. We always bought outside articles and combined this with the output of the mill. Eventually, we didn't need the mill and bought the trade name Kinnasand as a result," Hofmann explained.

Hofmann said he had always been a converter and has tried to keep the Swedish traditions and Scandinavian handwriting of the collection. Hofmann assumed responsibility for 40 people in the firm including designers and freelancers, he said. The Kinnasand line of $20 fabrics, average prices, is sold worldwide including Germany, Scandinavia., Europe and Japan. The collection includes wet printed and transfer printed, fabrics; linens, burnouts and jacquards.
