Chinese Blankets Recalled
August 24, 2007
WELLINGTON, New Zealand – Australia and New Zealand are recalling Chinese-made blankets from the Superlux brand because they have been found to contain high levels of potentially dangerous formaldehyde.
Wholesale firm and a distributor of the blankets, Charles Parsons, said the formaldehyde in the blankets "may cause short-term skin or respiratory irritation." New Zealand's Ministry of Consumer Affairs said it plans to start testing Chinese-made clothing next week for the chemical, which is used to prevent creasing in clothes and fabrics.
