MIAMI BEACH, FL (USA)–Not a day goes by without George Metridis and Antonis Stamatoulakis talking to each other no matter where they might be in the world of fabrics!
Metridis is the major wholesaler in Greece today. He is focused like a laser on the contract/hospitality market and to a lesser extent residential markets.
“There are 2,000 islands in Greece but only 649 are inhabited,” says Stamatoulakis, who is a frequent contributor to Fabrics & Furnishings International. Like his buddy George, Antonis lives in Athens and spends many weekends with his wife and two children sailing the Aegean Sea.
Recently, Antonis made a cold call on a hard to reach customer (unnamed).He represents Carillo of Italy and other lines. The customer said he could have 20 minutes to show his collection. Antonis said he needed “only 10 minutes.” He ended up spending one hour with that customer and she ordered several samples. That’s the spirit of the textile agent!
