SCR Helps Bring Down the Wall

January 8, 2000

The client depends on outside architects and designers than ever before, according to Joe Cacarillo and Jeff Simon of SCR. They have been partners for 22 years since graduating from Pratt Institute. ''About 60 percent of our business is repeat,'' said Richard Romm.

''Clients are downsizing. We're becoming the facilities group they use where before it was done in house on the client side,'' Cacarillo explained.

Office design is changing dramatically, the SCR partners said. For example, the height of the office partition is coming down to 42 inches from 60 inches in order to open up the entire office. This creates more interactions among people. Private offices are on the decline. Team spaces are being created with more sharing of resources. Instead of hiding the coffee area, SCR is designing it where everyone can congregate.

This is not a new idea to SCR; the original four partners still share a common office. F&FI
