Omnova Provides 'Total Equation' for Hospitality

April 14, 2000

Fairlawn, Ohio - In October 1999, Omnova's Decorative & Building Products and Performance Chemicals divisions broke from their parent company GenCorp Inc. The two divisions subsequently merged and formed one company, called Omnova Solutions.

The company's goal is to be a one-stop shop. ''We're trying to make customers' lives easier by providing the total equation.'' said Jim Devito, Director of Integrated Interiors. ''We make everything from aerospace and satellite products to items for hotel rooms. When you see the variety of decorative products we make and you envision a hotel room, you recognize that we have all the elements: wallcoverings, heat transfer prints and case coverings for desks, chairs and dressers.

''We do heat-transfer printing on fabrics that would be bedspreads, draperies, shower curtains,'' he said. ''Most is done on polyester or synthetic instead of natural. However, we're working toward making it work with cotton and other natural fibers.''

Devito said that Wallcoverings have been Omnova's most popular offering in the global hospitality industry. ''Wallcoverings are big,'' he said. ''Omnova is the No. 1 commercial wallcoverer in the world.''

He said that Omnova also has clients in the modular construction industry, and provides modular walls in office buildings.

The company has manufacturing and distribution operations in the London area, and offices in Paris, Brussels, Warsaw, Dubai. Devito said that Omnova sells its products through independent distributors, many regional, national. ''They would call on designers architects, corporate offices and hotels for us,'' he said. ''Walker Greenbank in U.K. is supplying our products in Asia.''

Devito said that the bulk is of the company's business is in North America.
