Hytex Adds Crypton to Commercial Wallcoverings

March 19, 2009

RANDOLPH, Massachusetts – Hytex Industries Inc., a 50-year-old converter, has introduced the first Crypton® Green decorative fabric for the commercial wallcoverings market in 54-inch-widths, according to Dick Blosz, executive vice president of Hytex.

Blosz said the commercial wallcovering market has been growing five percent a year and this new venture with Crypton should continue to lead that growth rate, especially in the hospitality and healthcare markets in corridors, rooms and exhibition areas. Hytex is also a major producer of acoustical wallcoverings for theatres and convention centers.

Crypton Wall™ is the name of the new class of wallcovering products with Hytex and represents a major diversification for Crypton from upholstery, its core market. Mattress fabrics represent another Crypton product diversification planned for expansion in the near future through Simmons, Kolcraft and American Leather.

The Crypton Green collections include six patterns in almost 60 colors, ready for delivery from Hytex's 30,000-square-foot warehouse in Randolph, a Boston suburb.

"The similarity between the names of Hytex and Hitex, the parent company of Crypton, are strictly coincidental," said Blosz. "We never thought we could produce these wallcoverings in an economical fashion because the chemistry of Crypton was not compatible with polypropylene wallcoverings. About a year ago, we replaced polypropylene with Repreve® reclaimed polyester. As a result, Crypton made sense." Hytex now has exclusive rights to produce the Crypton Green finished wallcoverings in 54-inch widths, he said.

Hytex began its textile wallcovering business 25 years ago for sale through distributors to the hospitality and corporate jobber. In addition, with Crypton Green, Hytex will now enter the healthcare markets in a major way due to the cleanability of the Crypton finished product.

Hytex will produce private label lines of textile wallcoverings for their distributors as well as its own branded line of "Inspirations" and "Transformation."

"With distributor lines, the names change every few years," said Blosz, a 23-year veteran of the firm. "We developed our own brands in order to give some continuity to our products."

Some of Hytex' major distributors who will market the private label Crypton lines include Koroseal and Wall Covering Source Group.
