Chilewich Runs With Hotel and Restaurant Division

September 1, 2005

NEW YORK, New York – Chilewich has decided to bring its vinyl textiles to the hospitality industry, providing a mix of durability and beauty to hotels and restaurants alike.

The division was created after the success of their placements in restaurants such as NYC's Craft and Blue Fin in the W in Times Square.

"It just caught on like rapid fire," President Sandy Chilewich said. According to Chilewich, after Craft thought of using Chilewich placemats as a tabletop accessory in their restaurant, news of their product spread through word-of-mouth.

Chilewich placemats are being used nationwide, on room service trays for W hotels, the Ritz Carlton and the Four Seasons. "That is a rapidly growing division," Chilewich said.

"Our vinyl textiles are a natural fit to the needs of so many prestige hotels and resort properties, first class restaurants and clubs, and even food and beverage chains because the designs convey a high level of style and an upscale image," she said.

The textiles – as well as the placemats – have a polyurethane backing, which allows them to be used as flooring, such as area rugs, wall-to-wall carpeting and floor tiles.

According to Chilewich, the flooring is new to the market place, as are their "cubes" -- dense foam covered in Chilewich fabric. They can be used for seating, tables or benches, and are "very appropriate for upholstery."

The new division will focus on table-top and "front of the house" usage, or hotel lobbies.

"We've got custom bound floor mats going into Starbuck's in dozens of locations around the country," Chilewich said. "And we've created a custom desk blotter for a hotel project in Minneapolis. These are just a few of the projects, other than tabletop, that we're involved in." Chilewich is being considered for hotel guest rooms, she said.

Also recently introduced was "Chilewich By the Yard," offering Chilewich's washable, durable material to the designer. "So you can upholster it however you want to," Chilewich said.
