Beaulieu International Group Looks to Close Down Berry Tuft and Berry Tapis

October 28, 2005

WAREGEM, Belgium –- At a European works council, which was held in Kortrijk (Belgium) on Thursday Oct. 13 by the former Berry Floor Group, the management has declared its intention to close down two production plants based in France.

These plants are Berry Tuft SAS in Châteauroux and Berry Tapis SAS in Buzançais, both in the heart of the country. According to the management of the group, the statement of intent has been prompted by the grim economical market conditions for woven and tufted carpet products.

According to the management it is still unclear when the two plants will be closed. They said talks are already underway with the local works councils, taking into account that the management -- if it would come down to the closing of a plant -- will do all it can to find a solution for the personnel involved, internally as well as externally.

At present, Berry Tuft SAS and Berry Tapis SAS employ 208 and 106 workers respectively. In 2004, Berry Tuft SAS effected a € 59.4 million turnover. Berry Tapis SAS realised a € 23.1 million turnover. The Beaulieu International Group employs a workforce of 4,781 staff in eight countries, jointly effecting a € 1.4 billion turnover (2004 consolidated figures).
