Arab Tower Contract Awarded to Irish Linen Weaver

February 11, 2000

Donaghcloney, Northern Ireland — Irish linen weaver Ewart Liddell recently secured a major six-figure contract for the Burj Al Arab (Arabian Tower) in Dubai, billed as the world's first luxury "seven star" hotel which boasts that it uses "the highest quality materials the world can offer."

The company, part of the U.K.-based CV Home Furnishings Division, will be supplying linen sheets, pillowcases, night-spreads, foot-mats and hand-towels for the 202 suites in the 52-story hotel, which overlooks Dubai's Jumeirah Beach.

All the products were 100 percent Irish linen and all but the sheets were custom woven or embroidered to the customer's specific requirements, according to Ewart Liddell Director of International Sales & Marketing Jimmy McCullough. Tablecloths and napkins will also be supplied to the hotel's five restaurants, he said.

Built on a man-made island, the world's tallest hotel is part of the Jumeirah Beach Resort Development. At 321 meters high, Burj Al Arab is higher than the Eiffel Tower and only 60 meters shorter than the Empire State Building.
