PITTSFORD, New York – TSG Incorporated, the nation’s largest commission finisher of woven products has recently partnered with G3 Technology Innovations (G3i) and will now offer the GreenShield family of products through its new Balance™ finishes. Three of the Balance™ processes have been assessed by MBDC as positively characterized from a human and ecological perspective. Balance™ EF and Balance™ LC35 are in the process of getting Cradle-to-Cradle certification.
GreenShield uses nanotechnology to manipulate particles smaller than the wavelength of visible light. This product architecture developed by G3i enables the surface functionality of nano-particles, which, because of their enormous surface area per unit weight, are able to carry large chemical loads and deliver the appropriate chemistry efficiently and safely, thereby reducing the overall amount of chemistry necessary to perform a specific function.
“GreenShield technology can revolutionize the textile industry by allowing multiple chemical properties to be applied in the same pass,” said Brian Rosenstein, director of operations for TSG. “I am not aware of any other technology that allows the application of a stain repellent, flame retardant, and abrasion enhancer in one pass using one chemical. That is currently a three-step process for us.”
By combining Greenshield processes with a 100 percent recyclable polyester backings, it is now possible for a fabric that has been awarded Silver accreditation to maintain that status after it has had a back coating and finishes added.
“This truly is a new beginning for the textile finishing industry” said Dr. Suresh Sunderrajan, chief operating officer for G3 Technology Innovations, “The textile industry remains one of the biggest challenges for reducing the use of flurochemicals this is where nanotechnology comes to the rescue.”
“We are so excited by the technology,” added Rosenstein. “We plan on incorporating it into the other markets that we are involved in such as nonwovens, industrial, and wallcoverings.” The partnership between TSG and G3i has come at an opportune time, when the home furnishing industry is becoming increasingly aware of the environmental and human health dangers associated with the overuse of chemicals. “TSG has always prided itself on raising the bar for state-of-the-art finishing technology and partnering with G3i allows us to take things to a whole new level,” added Brian Rosenstein.
